Washington Nationals at San Francisco Giants

SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants open a three-game series Monday night at Oracle Park, with both teams looking to build momentum after divisional road trips.

Washington (33-33) arrives after splitting a four-game set in Arizona, winning the first two before dropping the final two, including a 5-1 loss Sunday. The Nationals, who sit at .500, send RHP Cade Cavalli (3-4, 4.17 ERA) to the mound. Cavalli is coming off a loss at Arizona on June 7, allowing four earned runs on seven hits over five innings with two strikeouts. In his previous start June 1 against Miami, he went five innings, surrendering two earned runs on five hits. The right-hander’s best outing of late came May 26 at Cleveland, when he earned the win with six innings of one-run ball.

San Francisco (26-39) has lost four of its last five, including a 3-2 (10-inning) loss to the Cubs on Saturday. The Giants counter with RHP Landen Roupp (1-6, 5.40 ERA), who took the loss June 6 at Chicago despite allowing just one earned run over 5⅔ innings. He was roughed up in his previous start June 1 at Milwaukee, surrendering eight earned runs over four innings. Roupp has not won since May 14.

The clubs last met April 17-19 in Washington, with the Giants taking two of three. San Francisco won 10-5 and 7-6 before the Nationals shut them out 3-0 in the finale. The Giants hold a slim 2-1 edge in the season series.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Washington victory. San Francisco is a -1.5 run favorite, with the over/under set at 8 runs.

Washington’s offense has been led recently by SS CJ Abrams, who homered in Sunday’s loss. The Nationals return home after this series to face Seattle, then Kansas City. San Francisco hosts Chicago for three games beginning Friday, then travels to Atlanta and Miami.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. PDT.
