Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox

BOSTON (Interstat) — The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox will meet Thursday for a day-night doubleheader at Fenway Park, with first pitch of the opener scheduled for 1:35 p.m. and the nightcap at 7:10 p.m. EDT. The forecast calls for 83-degree temperatures and cloudy skies.

Baltimore (29-32) sends left-hander Trevor Rogers (2-6, 4.67 ERA) to the mound in the opener. The Orioles took the series opener Tuesday 4-2, powered by Shane Baz’s seven-inning, two-run outing and Pete Alonso’s two-run homer. Baz is a player to watch after earning wins in two of his last three starts, including a 4-2 victory over Boston on June 2.

Boston (25-34) counters with lefty Connelly Early (2-1, 3.21 ERA) in the first game. Early took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings. He has been solid this season, tossing seven scoreless innings in a win over Atlanta on May 27 and seven shutout frames against Tampa Bay on May 8.

The Orioles have won two of the last three meetings between the clubs, but Boston roughed up Baltimore 7-0 on Wednesday. The Red Sox also posted a 17-1 victory on April 25 and a 5-3 win on April 26, while the Orioles took the series opener April 24 with a 10-3 decision.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 Baltimore victory. The Orioles are installed as -1.5 favorites, with the over/under set at 10 runs.

After Thursday’s doubleheader, the Orioles travel to Toronto for a three-game series beginning Friday. The Red Sox visit New York for a three-game set against the Yankees starting Friday.
