New York Yankees at Athletics

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — Right-hander Will Warren (6-1) takes the mound for the New York Yankees on Sunday evening as they close a three-game series against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park.

First pitch is set for 7:07 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures around 79 degrees.

The Yankees (35-22) enter as one of the American League’s top teams after an 8-2 victory Friday night. Saturday’s game was postponed due to weather. New York, which leads the season series 2-1, will return home Tuesday for a six-game homestand against Cleveland and Boston.

Warren has been a steady presence in the rotation for the Yankees, who own the league’s best record. The Athletics (27-30) have dropped seven of their last 10 games and are looking to snap a four-game losing streak after Friday’s 8-2 loss to the Bronx Bombers.

Player to watch: Left-hander Carlos Rodón, this week’s Friday afternoon winner, has been dominant in recent outings despite two tough-luck losses. On May 29 against Oakland, Rodón threw six innings, allowing four hits and one earned run while striking out three. He also went five innings and allowed one earned run May 21 against Toronto, though he took the loss. He struggled in back-to-back starts against the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers in mid-May, but he rebounded sharply against the Athletics.

Player to watch: Left-hander Hogan Harris has been effective out of the bullpen. In his last 10 appearances, Harris has allowed two earned runs over 8⅓ innings, striking out 10. On Friday against the Yankees, Harris threw 1⅓ scoreless frames with one strikeout.

Recent series history: The Yankees won the opener Friday 8-2, with Ben Rice going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, and Paul Goldschmidt driving in three runs. The Athletics won earlier meetings in April: 3-2 on April 8 and 1-0 on April 9, both in New York.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Yankees victory.

Following Sunday’s game, the Athletics travel to Chicago for a three-game series against the Cubs starting Tuesday. The Yankees host Cleveland for three games beginning Tuesday.
