Minnesota Twins at Chicago White Sox
CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox open a four-game series Monday with a day-night doubleheader at Guaranteed Rate Field, where rain is in the forecast and two teams hovering near .500 look to gain early-season traction.
Minnesota (26-27) arrives after winning three of four at Boston, including a 6-5 victory Sunday in which reliever Travis Adams recorded two outs without allowing a hit. The Twins will send right-hander Zebby Matthews (1-1) in the afternoon game and left-hander Anthony Kay (3-1) in the nightcap. Chicago (26-26) is coming off a 8-5 loss at San Francisco on Sunday, a game in which reliever Tyler Davis worked 1⅔ scoreless innings.
The weather could be a factor. The forecast calls for 72 degrees with rain at game time, possibly leading to delays or a revised schedule.
Adams, who has allowed only one earned run over his past eight innings across five appearances, will be a key arm out of the Minnesota bullpen. Over his last four outings, he has pitched 6⅓ scoreless innings, striking out seven and yielding two hits.
Davis has been equally effective for Chicago, posting scoreless outings in nine of his past 10 appearances. He has allowed one earned run over his last 13 innings, striking out 10.
Minnesota has won four of its past six games, while Chicago has dropped four of its past six. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 White Sox victory in the opener, though Minnesota is installed as a -1.5 favorite. The over/under is 8.5 runs.
The series continues through Thursday before both teams hit the road — Minnesota heads to Pittsburgh, while Chicago hosts Detroit. The clubs meet again June 1-3 at Target Field in Minneapolis.
