Miami Marlins at Minnesota Twins
MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — Right-hander Max Meyer (2-0) will take the mound for the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night as they continue a two-game series against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature of 64 degrees.
Miami (19-22) enters the game after a 5-2 victory over Washington on Sunday, a win powered by Sandy Alcantara’s six-inning, two-earned-run outing. The Marlins have won four of their past five contests.
Minnesota (18-23) counters with right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson, who is 0-5 with a 5.40 ERA this season. The Twins are coming off a 5-4 win at Cleveland on Sunday, a game in which reliever Kendry Rojas earned the win with 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball.
Tuesday’s series opener ended in a 0-0 scoreless tie, a result that was not immediately explained.
Alcantara, the Marlins’ ace, has been a steadying force in the rotation. Over his past three starts, he allowed two earned runs in six innings against Washington on May 10, two earned runs in six innings at the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 29 and three earned runs in six innings at San Francisco on April 24. He also took a loss May 5 against Baltimore, allowing seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.
For Minnesota, Rojas has been effective in limited work. In his two appearances this season, he has allowed one earned run over 5 1/3 innings, striking out five.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 5-3 Minnesota victory.
After Wednesday’s game, the Marlins travel to Tampa Bay for a three-game series starting Friday. The Twins host Milwaukee for a three-game set beginning Friday.
