New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles

YANKEES AT ORIOLES

BALTIMORE (Interstat) – The New York Yankees, leading the American League East by a comfortable margin, continue their three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

First pitch is set for 66 degrees under clear skies.

Left-hander Max Fried (4-2) takes the mound for the Yankees (26-16), who are looking to even the series after a 3-2 loss Monday. Fried has been a steady force in the rotation but will need support from a lineup that has largely dominated Baltimore this season. The Yankees have won six of eight meetings between the division rivals, outscoring the Orioles 50-21 in those games.

Baltimore (19-23) counters with right-hander Brandon Young (1-2), who earned the win in Monday’s series opener. Young pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts. It was a bounce-back performance after he was tagged for seven earned runs in four innings against Houston on April 29.

A player to watch for New York is reliever Ryan Weathers, who was effective in Monday’s loss despite taking the decision. Weathers tossed 6 1/3 innings, giving up just one hit and two earned runs while striking out nine. He threw 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball in a win over Baltimore on May 2.

For the Orioles, designated hitter Coby Mayo has provided a spark. He drove in three runs in Monday’s win, including a home run.

The Yankees are coming off a 2-3 road trip through Milwaukee, while Baltimore took two of three from at home before Monday’s victory. New York won 12-1 and 11-3 in a two-game sweep of Baltimore at Yankee Stadium on May 3-4.

An Interstat simulation projects a 5-4 Yankees win.

After this series, the Yankees head to Citi Field for a weekend set against the Mets. Baltimore travels to Washington for a three-game series against the Nationals.
