Los Angeles Angels at Cleveland Guardians

PREVIEW: Angels at Guardians

CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The sub-.500 Los Angeles Angels travel to Progressive Field on Monday to open a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians, who sit at .500 and are looking to build momentum in the early weeks of May.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT under clear skies, with a game-time temperature of 57 degrees.

Pitching matchup

Left-hander Joey Cantillo (2-1, 3.86 ERA) takes the mound for the Angels. The 25-year-old has been a bright spot in a struggling rotation, though he has not faced Cleveland this season. The Guardians had not announced a starting pitcher as of Sunday night.

Records and recent form

The Angels enter with a 16-25 record, last in the AL West. They are coming off a 6-1 win Sunday in Toronto, a victory that snapped a four-game losing streak. The Guardians, meanwhile, are 21-21, third in the AL Central, after dropping a 5-4 decision to Minnesota on Sunday (Interstat) — their third loss in four games.

Players to watch

Angels outfielder Jo Adell has been streaky. In Sunday’s win, Adell went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs, raising his average to .247. Over his past 11 games, however, he has seven multi-hit games but also five hitless performances. He is batting .333 (8-for-24) with three homers on the current road trip.

For the Guardians, right-hander Franco Aleman has been effective out of the bullpen. The 26-year-old rookie allowed no earned runs over two innings Sunday, scattering two hits and striking out one. He has a 2.25 ERA in 12 relief appearances this season.

Last meeting

These two clubs have not played in 2026. The Angels won the season series last year, 4-2.

Notes

Angels right fielder Mike Trout (knee) remains on the injured list and is not expected to return until June. Cleveland shortstop Brayan Rocchio (.291, 3 HR, 18 RBIs) is day-to-day with a bruised hand after being hit by a pitch Sunday.

Projection

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Guardians victory.

Up next

The series continues Tuesday and Wednesday at Progressive Field, with the same 7:10 p.m. start times. The Angels then return home for a weekend series against the Dodgers, while the Guardians host the Reds.
