New York Mets at Arizona Diamondbacks
PHOENIX (Interstat) — The New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks conclude their four-game series Sunday evening at Chase Field, with the Mets sending undefeated left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to the mound against the Diamondbacks.
Rodriguez (3-0) has been a rare bright spot for a Mets team that enters play at 15-24. He has yet to lose a decision this season. Arizona (18-20) will counter with Merrill Kelly, who earned a win against these same Mets in a 2-1 victory Saturday, allowing one run on three hits over seven innings while striking out six.
That 2-1 result Saturday saw Clay Holmes take the loss for New York despite a solid outing. Holmes worked 5 2/3 innings, scattering five hits and allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts. The right-hander has been a reliable performer lately, posting a 1.93 ERA over his last three starts, including a scoreless six-inning outing against Washington on April 28.
Kelly’s recent form has been uneven. After his strong performance Saturday, he had allowed 11 earned runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss at Chicago on May 3, and 13 runs total in his previous two starts before that.
The series is split after the Mets took the opener 3-1 in 10 innings Friday. New York is looking to build momentum after dropping six of their last eight, while Arizona has won three of four.
A simulation by Interstat projects a 4-3 Mets victory.
Following the series, the Mets return home to host Detroit, then the Yankees. Arizona travels to Texas for three games before visiting Colorado.
