Washington Nationals at Miami Marlins

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals visit the Miami Marlins on Saturday evening at loanDepot Park, with first pitch scheduled under clear skies and 86-degree weather.

Washington (19-20) sends right-hander Zack Littell (1-4) to the mound, seeking his second win of the season. Miami (17-22) counters with right-hander Janson Junk (2-3).

The Nationals took the series opener 3-2 on Friday afternoon, aided by left-hander Foster Griffin’s dominant start: 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned run and 9 strikeouts. Center fielder Jacob Young contributed a home run and two RBIs. Griffin has been Washington’s most consistent arm, posting a 1.78 ERA over his last four starts, including a 7-inning, 2-hit, 8-strikeout win at Chicago on April 26.

Miami right-hander Tyler Phillips worked 2⅓ scoreless innings in relief Friday, allowing one hit with two strikeouts. Over his last eight appearances, Phillips has permitted only one earned run across 15⅓ innings.

The Marlins have dropped four of five. Miami’s offense managed just two runs on five hits in Friday’s loss. Washington, meanwhile, has won four of six and outscored opponents 28-18 during that stretch.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-3 Nationals victory. The Marlins are installed as -1.5 run favorites, with the over/under set at 8.5.

After Saturday, the teams conclude the series Sunday afternoon. Washington travels to Cincinnati on Tuesday for a three-game set, while Miami visits Minnesota for a three-game series beginning Tuesday.
