New York Yankees at Milwaukee Brewers

Preview: Yankees at Brewers

MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The New York Yankees, owners of the American League’s best record, open a three-game interleague series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night at American Family Field.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies, with the temperature projected at 48 degrees.

The Yankees (26-12) bring a five-game winning streak into the matchup, most recently routing the Texas Rangers 9-2 on Thursday. Left-hander Max Fried (4-1, 2.83 ERA) is scheduled to start for New York. He has won his last two decisions, including 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball against Baltimore on May 3.

Milwaukee (19-16) counter with right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (2-2, 3.86 ERA). Misiorowski is coming off a no-decision at St. Louis on May 6, when he allowed one hit over four scoreless innings with five strikeouts. The Brewers defeated the Cardinals 6-2 in that game, their second win in three contests.

Players to watch

Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham has been productive in spurts. He went 3 for 5 with three RBIs in Thursday’s win over Texas and homered May 2 against Baltimore. Over his last 10 games, Grisham is batting .280 with two home runs and seven RBIs.

Brewers right-hander Brandon Sproat, who tossed four scoreless innings in relief May 6, has found a rhythm after a rough April start. In his last three appearances, Sproat has allowed one earned run over 11 2/3 innings with 15 strikeouts.

Projections and trends

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Yankees victory. The ELO system gives New York a 50.3% probability of winning. The Yankees are installed as -1.5 favorites, and the over/under is seven runs.

The Yankees lead the season series 1-0 after a 9-2 win on Thursday. New York has won eight of its last 10 overall. Milwaukee has split its last six.

Up next

The series continues Saturday at 7:10 p.m., with New York’s Gerrit Cole scheduled to oppose Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta. Sunday’s finale is set for 2:10 p.m.

After this series, the Yankees travel to Baltimore for three games beginning Monday. The Brewers host San Diego for a three-game set starting Tuesday.
