Kansas City Royals at Seattle Mariners
SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners conclude their three-game series Sunday evening at T-Mobile Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PDT under partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 71 degrees.
Left-hander Kris Bubic (2-1, 2.84 ERA) will start for the Royals, who enter the game at 13-19. Seattle (16-17) will counter with right-hander Luis Castillo (0-2, 4.50 ERA), who is still seeking his first win of the season.
The Royals won the series opener 7-6 on Friday, powered by a strong relief appearance from Lucas Erceg. The right-hander threw a scoreless inning with one strikeout, extending a dominant stretch in which he has allowed no earned runs in nine of his past 10 appearances. Over that span, Erceg has surrendered just one earned run in 9 2/3 innings while striking out 10.
Seattle center fielder Julio Rodríguez has been the Mariners’ most consistent offensive threat. In Friday’s loss, Rodríguez went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Over his past 10 games, Rodríguez is batting .333 with three homers and nine RBIs.
The series continues after Saturday night’s game, which was scoreless at the time of this preview. Kansas City took three of four from the Los Angeles Angels before dropping two of three at earlier in the week. Seattle won three of four at Minnesota before losing Friday’s series opener.
Kansas City was installed as a -1.5 favorite, according to betting markets. The over/under for total runs is set at 8. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Seattle victory.
The Royals will open a four-game home series Monday against the Cleveland Guardians. Seattle returns home Monday to begin a three-game set against the Atlanta Braves.
