Braves at Rockies
DENVER (Interstat) — The Atlanta Braves, owners of the best record in the National League, will attempt to complete a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field.
First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. MDT. The forecast calls for 70 degrees and clear skies.
Atlanta (23-10) has won the first two games of the series, including an 8-6 victory Friday and a 3-1 win Saturday. The Braves have won seven of their past nine games overall.
Colorado (14-19) is seeking to avoid a sweep after losing five of its past six games.
Pitching Matchup
Atlanta will send RHP Spencer Strider to the mound. Strider entered Sunday without a decision recorded this season on the information provided. He opposes Colorado LHP Kyle Freeland (1-2, 5.40 ERA in his starts).
Freeland has struggled, allowing four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings in his most recent start April 15 at Houston. The Rockies have lost three of his four outings this year.
Players to Watch
Braves outfielder Mauricio Dubón is 5-for-14 (.357) over his past three games. In Friday’s series opener, Dubón went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. He is hitting .286 (6-for-21) over his past six contests, with five RBIs during that span.
Rockies left-hander Jose Quintana starts the game scheduled to pitch Monday, but his recent performances bear watching. Quintana pitched well Friday against Atlanta, allowing one earned run over six innings with three strikeouts in a no-decision.
By the Numbers
Atlanta enters as a -1.5 run favorite on the run line. The over/under is 10.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Braves victory.
The Braves’ lineup has produced consistent offense, scoring at least five runs in seven of their past nine games. The Rockies have scored three runs or fewer in four of their past five contests.
Looking Ahead
Following Sunday’s game, the Braves begin a 10-game road trip Monday at Seattle. The Rockies return home Monday to begin a three-game series against the New York Mets.
