Miami Marlins at Los Angeles Dodgers

PREVIEW: Marlins at Dodgers

LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers close a three-game series Wednesday afternoon at Dodger Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EDT under clear skies and a temperature of 56 degrees.

Miami (14-16) enters off a 2-1 victory Tuesday that evened the series at one game apiece. The Marlins will send right-hander Tyler Glasnow (3-0, 2.84 ERA) to the mound against the Dodgers (20-10), who lead the National League West by two games.

Glasnow has yet to lose this season, striking out 31 batters over 31 2/3 innings. He faced the Dodgers once last year while with Tampa Bay, allowing three runs over six innings in a no-decision.

Los Angeles counters with right-hander Shohei Ohtani (3-2, 2.70 ERA), who took the loss Tuesday despite striking out nine over six innings, allowing one run on five hits. Ohtani has been a two-way threat for the Dodgers, batting .286 with four home runs while also posting a 1.06 WHIP as a pitcher.

The Marlins have leaned heavily on right-hander Janson Junk, who earned the win Tuesday with six scoreless innings, scattering three hits while striking out four. Over his last two starts, Junk has allowed one earned run over 11 innings with six strikeouts.

Tuesday’s win was Miami’s first in three games after dropping the series opener 5-4 on Monday. The Marlins have split their last six games overall.

The Dodgers had won six of seven before Tuesday’s setback. Los Angeles has outscored opponents 179-112 this season and boasts a plus-67 run differential.

Projections favor the Dodgers, with Interstat’s ELO system giving Los Angeles a 70.7 percent probability of victory. The game total is set at 8 runs, with the Dodgers installed as a -1.5 favorite.

Miami’s bullpen has been a strength, with Tyler Phillips and Anthony Bender combining for two scoreless innings in Tuesday’s win. The Marlins will need a similar effort Wednesday against a Dodgers lineup that averages 6.0 runs per game.

Los Angeles begins a six-game road trip Friday at St. Louis, while Miami returns home for a 10-game homestand against Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington.

Ohtani will look to bounce back at the plate after going 0-for-3 Tuesday. In his last three games as a hitter, he is 6-for-11 with a home run and two RBIs.
