Yankees, Red Sox Set for Rubber Match at Fenway

BOSTON (Interstat) — The New York Yankees look to complete a series sweep when they face the Boston Red Sox in the finale of a three-game set Thursday at Fenway Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 47 degrees.

The Yankees (14-9) have taken the first two games of the series by identical 4-0 scores, extending their winning streak to four games. The Red Sox (9-14) have lost three of their last four and will try to avoid being shut out for a third consecutive game by their rivals.

New York will send right-hander Cam Schlittler (2-1) to the mound. Boston counters with right-hander Brayan Bello (1-2).

A player to watch for the Yankees is right-hander Luis Gil, who dominated the Red Sox lineup on Tuesday. Gil pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits in the 4-0 victory. Over his last three starts, he is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA.

For the Red Sox, left-hander Connelly Early will be looking for better results after a tough outing against New York his last time out. On Tuesday, Early allowed three earned runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings in the loss. He is 0-3 with a 2.96 ERA in his last five appearances.

The Yankees’ offense was powered Tuesday by designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton, who went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Reliever David Bednar closed the game with a scoreless inning.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Yankees 6, Red Sox 5. New York has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 8.5 runs.

Following Thursday’s game, the Yankees travel to Houston for a three-game series starting Friday. The Red Sox head to Baltimore to begin a three-game set Friday.
