Orioles Power Past Giants to Even Series

BALTIMORE (Interstat) — Jeremiah Jackson broke a tie with a two-run double in the fourth inning and added a solo home run in the seventh, powering the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

A crowd of 29,444 watched the Orioles even their season record at 7-7, while the Giants fell to 6-9.

The most important sequence of the game unfolded in the bottom of the fourth inning, turning a 2-2 deadlock into a lead Baltimore would not relinquish. After the Giants had scratched across a run in the top of the inning to pull even, the Orioles responded immediately against San Francisco starter Logan Webb. Dylan Beavers worked a leadoff walk and, after a fielder’s choice, scored on Colton Cowser’s RBI single. Coby Mayo then drove in another run with a fielder’s choice, setting the stage for Jackson.

The Baltimore second baseman, who entered the game in a 3-for-15 skid over his previous four contests, delivered the decisive blow. He launched a deep fly ball to right field that one-hopped the wall for a double, easily scoring Mayo from first base. The two-run hit gave the Orioles a 4-2 advantage and shifted the game’s momentum permanently in their favor.

Jackson was not finished. Facing reliever Ryan Borucki in the seventh, he led off the inning by driving a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left-center field for his first home run of the season, extending Baltimore’s lead to 5-2. He finished the day 3 for 4 with a double, the homer, two RBIs and a run scored, solidifying his status as the game’s top star.

The Orioles’ bullpen, a key factor after starter Chris Bassitt navigated 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball despite allowing seven hits, sealed the win with dominant relief. Following Jackson’s homer, a committee of Baltimore relievers stifled the Giants’ offense. Rico Garcia, Anthony Nunez, and Grant Wolfram combined for 2 1/3 perfect innings before Yennier Cano recorded the final out. Wolfram was credited with the win, his first of the season.

San Francisco’s offense, which produced 10 hits, repeatedly failed in clutch situations. The Giants went 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position and grounded into three double plays, including a game-ending twin killing in the ninth inning with two runners on base.

Heliot Ramos provided both Giants RBIs, with a run-scoring single in the second and a groundout in the fourth. Logan Webb took the loss for San Francisco, falling to 1-2 after allowing four earned runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out six but was outdueled by Baltimore’s pitching staff when it mattered most.

Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson also homered, a solo shot in the third inning that briefly tied the game at 1-1. The Orioles added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Coby Mayo.

The victory gave Baltimore a split of the first two games of the series after the Giants won the opener 6-3 on Friday. The teams conclude their three-game set on Sunday.

The outcome defied the pregame betting line, which had installed San Francisco as a 1.5-run favorite. It also fell short of the projected 7-4 Orioles victory from Interstat’s game simulator, though the system had given Baltimore a narrow 50.6% probability to win.

For the Giants, the loss continued a pattern of inconsistency early in the season. They will look to secure a series win in the finale before embarking on a road trip to Cincinnati and Washington. The Orioles, now back to .500, will host Arizona for three games beginning Monday before hitting the road for a lengthy trip through Cleveland and Kansas City.
