Cardinals, Nationals Set for Second Game of Series
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals will continue their early-season series Tuesday night at Nationals Park, with both clubs looking to establish momentum after splitting their first 10 games.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature around 61 degrees.
The Cardinals (5-5) evened their record with a 5-3 win in Detroit on Sunday but opened this series with a 9-6 loss to the Nationals on Monday. Third baseman Ramón Urías was a bright spot in the defeat, going 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. He has two homers and four RBIs over his last three games.
St. Louis will send left-hander Matthew Liberatore (0-0) to the mound for his first start of the season.
Washington (4-6) snapped a three-game skid with Monday’s victory. Right-hander Zack Littell (0-0) is set to start for the Nationals. In his last outing, he allowed one earned run over five innings with six strikeouts in a 9-6 win over Philadelphia on March 31.
The Nationals’ offense was powered Monday by rookie James Wood, who hit a three-run homer, and third baseman Brady House, who added a two-run shot.
According to Interstat, the Cardinals are projected as a slight favorite with a 53.6% probability to win. Their game simulator predicts a 4-3 St. Louis victory. The over/under for the game is set at 7.5 runs.
Following Tuesday’s contest, the teams will conclude the three-game series Wednesday afternoon before St. Louis returns home to host Boston and Washington embarks on a road trip to Milwaukee.
