Los Angeles Dodgers at Toronto Blue Jays

Dodgers, Riding Hot Start, Open Series in Toronto Against Blue Jays

TORONTO (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers, boasting the best record in the majors, will send rookie left-hander Justin Wrobleski to the mound for his first start of the season Monday night when they open a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

The Dodgers (7-2) arrive having won three straight and six of their last seven, including an 8-6 victory at Washington on Sunday. Two-way star Shohei Ohtani homered and drove in two runs in that win, continuing a torrid stretch. Over his last three games, Ohtani is 6 for 15 with two home runs and six RBIs.

Wrobleski, 25, will be making his season debut. He posted a 0-0 record and a 3.38 ERA in four spring training appearances.

He’ll be opposed by veteran Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer (1-0, 3.60 ERA). Scherzer, 41, earned a win in his first start of the season last week, allowing two runs over five innings against Colorado.

The Blue Jays (4-5) are looking to rebound after being shut out 3-0 by the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, managing just four hits. Reliever Spencer Miles provided a bright spot with two scoreless innings of work. Over his last two appearances, Miles has pitched three innings, allowing no runs and striking out four.

Los Angeles’ offense has been potent early, scoring eight or more runs in four of its nine games. Catcher Dalton Rushing also homered in Sunday’s win.

Toronto’s lineup will aim to solve a Dodgers pitching staff that has been effective despite injuries. Closer Edwin Díaz secured the save Sunday with a perfect ninth inning.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Dodgers are projected to win 8-4. Los Angeles has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 8.5 runs.

Following this series, the Dodgers return home to face the Texas Rangers on Friday. The Blue Jays will host the Minnesota Twins to start their next homestand.
