San Diego Padres at Boston Red Sox

Preview: Padres at Red Sox, Sunday, April 5, 2026

BOSTON (Interstat) — The San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox will look to salvage a series split in a chilly finale at Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with temperatures near 46 degrees.

The clubs have traded narrow decisions in the first two games of this interleague set. Boston took the opener 5-2 on Friday before San Diego evened it with a 3-2 victory Saturday behind a strong start from Randy Vásquez.

Vásquez, a player to watch for the Padres (3-5), will be unavailable after throwing six innings of one-run ball in the win. Instead, San Diego is expected to start left-hander Ranger Suárez (0-1, 0.00 ERA), who seeks his first decision. The Padres also listed Walker Buehler as a probable pitcher.

Boston (2-6) will counter with left-hander Connelly Early (0-2, 4.35 ERA). Early took the loss Friday against the Padres, allowing two earned runs over four innings. He will try to help the Red Sox snap a three-game skid at home.

Both teams have struggled out of the gate. The Padres have lost five of their last seven, while the Red Sox have dropped six of eight overall.

San Diego’s bullpen shined in Saturday’s win, with Mason Miller and Jeremiah Estrada combining for two perfect innings and four strikeouts. Boston’s relievers were also effective in defeat, with Ryan Watson and Danny Coulombe providing scoreless work.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Red Sox are projected to win 3-2. Boston has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 9 runs.

Following the game, the Padres head to Pittsburgh for a three-game series starting Monday. The Red Sox will remain at home to begin a three-game set with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.
