New York Mets at St. Louis Cardinals
Mets, Cardinals Set for Afternoon Finale in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — The New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals will wrap a three-game series with an afternoon matchup Wednesday at Busch Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 81 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Mets (3-1) will send right-hander Freddy Peralta (1-0) to the mound. The Cardinals (2-2) counter with left-hander Matthew Liberatore (0-0).
New York evened the series with a 4-2 victory on Monday behind a strong start from Clay Holmes, who allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings. St. Louis responded with a 2-0 shutout win Tuesday.
A player to watch for the Mets is Holmes, who dominated the Cardinals lineup in his last outing. A key figure for St. Louis is reliever Matt Svanson, who tossed two scoreless innings against New York on Monday but struggled in his two appearances prior against Tampa Bay, allowing six earned runs in just one combined inning.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Mets are projected to win 6-3. New York has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 8 runs.
Following the game, the Mets travel to San Francisco for a four-game set beginning Thursday. The Cardinals have an off-day Thursday before starting a six-game road trip in Detroit on Friday.
