Phillies Rally in Extras to Edge Nationals in 10 Innings
PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — Justin Crawford’s walk-off single in the 10th inning lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies erased a two-run deficit in the ninth, capitalizing on a costly error to force extras before Crawford’s game-winning hit.
Cristopher Sánchez starred for Philadelphia, striking out seven over 5 1/3 innings while allowing one run. Washington’s Cade Cavalli matched him with six strong innings. The Nationals built a 5-2 lead behind a three-run homer from CJ Abrams in the seventh, but the Phillies chipped away. Edmundo Sosa’s two-run single in the ninth tied it after a throwing error.
Jhoan Duran earned the win with a scoreless 10th. Cole Henry took the loss. Both teams are now 3-3. Attendance was 37,469.
