San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The San Francisco Giants, still searching for their first win, will turn to right-hander Logan Webb as they continue a four-game series against the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park on Tuesday.
Webb (0-1) will look to steady a Giants team that has been outscored 16-1 while starting the season 0-3, including a 3-1 loss to the New York Yankees on Saturday. San Francisco was also shut out 3-0 by the Padres in Monday’s series opener.
He will be opposed by San Diego’s Germán Márquez. The Padres (1-2) evened their record with Monday’s victory after dropping their first two games to the Detroit Tigers.
A player to watch for the Giants is Tyler Mahle, who delivered a solid start in Saturday’s loss to the Yankees, allowing two earned runs over four innings with five strikeouts. For the Padres, right-hander Randy Vásquez is coming off a dominant performance, tossing six shutout innings with eight strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Detroit on Saturday.
Despite their winless record, the Giants have been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a narrow 5-4 victory for the Padres.
Following Tuesday’s contest, the series concludes Wednesday before both teams embark on different paths. The Giants return home to host the New York Mets for four games starting Thursday, while the Padres hit the road for a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox beginning Friday.
