Cleveland Guardians at Minnesota Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians, riding a late-season surge, open a doubleheader against the American League Central-rival Minnesota Twins on Saturday at Target Field.

The Guardians (81-71) enter the day-night twin bill 10 games above .500 after winning 12 of their last 15 contests. They are coming off a three-game road sweep of the Detroit Tigers, capped by a 3-1 victory on Thursday behind a strong start from Tanner Bibee and a two-RBI performance from José Ramírez.

Conversely, the Twins (66-86) have struggled, dropping seven of their last 10 games. They are looking to rebound after dropping two of three at home to the New York Yankees, including a 10-5 loss on Wednesday. Shortstop Brooks Lee provided a bright spot in that defeat, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

This season series has been tightly contested. The clubs split a four-game set in Cleveland from Aug. 1-3, and the Twins took two of three at home from the Guardians in May. Cleveland holds a narrow 6-5 edge in the 11 meetings so far this year. The teams opened this series with a pitchers’ duel on Friday night that was suspended in extra innings with the score tied 0-0. That game will be completed prior to Saturday’s first regularly scheduled game.

According to a projection from Interstat, the Guardians are favored to take the opener with a simulated final score of 8-4.

Following the doubleheader, the series concludes on Sunday. Cleveland then returns home for a six-game homestand against Detroit and Texas to close the regular season. Minnesota embarks on a seven-game road trip to Texas and Philadelphia after Sunday’s finale.
