Oakland Athletics at Pittsburgh Pirates
PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — Two teams playing out the final stretch of the 2025 season will open a three-game series when the Athletics visit the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Friday night.
The Athletics (72-81) arrive after taking two of three from the Boston Red Sox, including a 5-3 victory on Thursday. Brent Rooker provided the power with a two-run homer, while pitchers J.T. Ginn and Hogan Harris combined to limit the Red Sox offense.
Oakland has found some late-season momentum, winning seven of its last 11 games. The A’s offense has been potent during that stretch, scoring seven or more runs in five of those contests.
Conversely, the Pirates (65-88) have struggled, losing six of their last seven games. They are coming off a 8-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, a game in which catcher Joey Bart hit a three-run homer in a losing effort. Pittsburgh’s pitching has been a concern, allowing five or more runs in four of its last five games.
Despite the records and recent form, betting markets have installed the Pirates as a slight favorite with a -1.5 run spread. The over/under for the game is set at 8.5 runs. Statistical projections, however, see it differently. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 6-3 victory for the Athletics, while its ELO rating system gives a narrow 50.40 percent probability to win.
This series marks the final interleague matchup for both clubs this season. Following this weekend, the Athletics will return to to host the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals for their final homestand. The Pirates will hit the road for their final seven games, with series against the Cincinnati Reds and the Atlanta Braves.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT at PNC Park.
