Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants
SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — Logan Webb capped a dominant individual season by striking out eight over 5 1/3 shutout innings, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 4-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday evening at Oracle Park.
Webb (15-11) secured his place in the franchise record books, finishing the season as the National League leader in both strikeouts (224) and innings pitched (207). He is the first Giants pitcher to achieve that double since Bill Voiselle in 1944.
The Giants provided Webb with an early lead when Willy Adames led off the bottom of the first inning with his 30th home run of the season, becoming the first San Francisco player to reach that milestone since Barry Bonds hit 45 in 2004.
San Francisco added to its lead in the fourth when Rafael Devers hit his 35th home run, a solo shot to center field.
The Giants broke the game open with two runs in the eighth. With two outs and runners on second and third, Jung Hoo Lee lined a single into right field, scoring both Grant McCray and Devers.
Webb allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter before turning the game over to the bullpen. Spencer Bivens was flawless in relief, striking out three over two perfect innings to record his third save of the season.
The Giants’ pitching staff combined to strike out 13 Rockies batters. Colorado managed just five hits, with Brenton Doyle collecting two, including a double.
McCade Brown (0-5) took the loss for Colorado, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings of work.
The loss was the fifth straight for the Rockies, who finished their season with a record of 43-119. The Giants concluded their year at .500 with an 81-81 record.
A crowd of 37,536 watched the game, which took 2 hours, 18 minutes to complete.
