Colorado Rockies at San Francisco Giants
SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The San Francisco Giants will look to close a disappointing season on a winning note and send veteran ace Logan Webb out a winner when they host the Colorado Rockies in the finale for both teams Sunday evening at Oracle Park.
The Giants (80-81) have won the first two games of the series, including a 4-3 victory Saturday, and can secure a .500 record with a win. They have dominated the season series, winning 11 of the 15 matchups.
Webb (14-11) will take the mound for San Francisco, aiming to cap a solid individual campaign. He will be opposed by Colorado’s McCade Brown (0-4), who is still seeking his first major league win.
The game presents a stark contrast between the clubs. The Rockies (43-118) have long been eliminated from contention and are headed for one of the worst records in modern baseball history. They have lost 10 of their last 11 games. The Giants, after hovering near playoff contention for much of the summer, saw their hopes dashed with a late-season slide.
In Saturday’s win, Casey Schmitt provided the key blow with a three-run home run for the Giants, while Justin Verlander earned the win with six strong innings. For Colorado, Brenton Doyle and Hunter Goodman each homered in the losing effort.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 68 degrees. According to Interstat, the Giants are projected to win 3-2 and are installed as a 1.5-run favorite. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs.
