St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs
CHICAGO (Interstat) — The St. Louis Cardinals will look to salvage the final game of their season-ending series against the playoff-bound Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 87 degrees.
The Cubs (91-70), who have clinched a postseason berth, have dominated the first two games of the series, outscoring the Cardinals 19-4. They won 7-3 on Saturday behind a four-hit, two-homer performance from Michael Busch.
St. Louis (78-83) will send right-hander Michael McGreevy (8-4) to the mound. McGreevy took the loss in Saturday’s game, allowing three runs over 4 2/3 innings of relief after an opener was used. The Cubs have not announced a starting pitcher.
Despite the lopsided recent results, the season series has been streaky. The Cardinals took two of three from the Cubs in St. Louis in August, but Chicago has won five of the last seven meetings. Nolan Arenado and Jordan Walker homered for St. Louis in Saturday’s defeat.
The Cubs had lost four straight before this series but have rebounded with powerful offensive showings. The Cardinals have lost three of their last four.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the finale is projected to be a tight contest, favoring St. Louis 5-4.
This game concludes the 2025 regular season for both National League Central rivals.
