New York Mets at Miami Marlins
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Interstat) — In a season finale defined by a dominant pitching performance and one explosive inning, the Miami Marlins shut out the New York Mets 4-0 on Sunday evening at loanDepot park.
The game, which concluded the 2025 campaign for both teams, was decided in the fourth inning when the Marlins sent nine batters to the plate and scored all four of their runs. The offensive outburst was more than enough for Miami starter Edward Cabrera, who stifled the Mets’ lineup over five scoreless innings.
Cabrera earned the win, improving to 8-7 on the season. He allowed just two hits and struck out seven, effectively neutralizing a New York offense that had been installed as a pregame favorite. The Mets, who finished their season with an 83-79 record, were held to just five hits total and grounded into two double plays, squandering several scoring opportunities.
Brooks Raley took the loss for New York, falling to 3-1. He was charged with all four Miami runs in the fourth inning.
The game was a pitcher’s duel through the first three frames. Cabrera and Mets opener Sean Manaea traded zeros, with Manaea striking out three in 1 2/3 hitless innings. The Mets threatened in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but Cabrera escaped the jam by getting Pete Alonso to line out sharply to left field.
The Marlins’ offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth against Raley. After a groundout, Connor Norby started the rally with a single. Eric Wagaman then drove him in with an RBI double. Following a flyout, Brian Navarreto doubled to center field, scoring Wagaman. Javier Sanoja followed with a triple to left, bringing Navarreto home, and Xavier Edwards capped the inning with a single to center to plate Sanoja.
From there, the Marlins’ bullpen combined with Cabrera to keep the Mets off the board. Ronny Henriquez, Tyler Phillips and Calvin Faucher each provided scoreless relief to secure the shutout before an announced crowd of 34,660.
The Mets’ best chance to score came in the eighth inning when they put two runners on with one out, but Miami’s Faucher struck out Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez to end the threat. New York also put a runner on in the ninth, but Francisco Lindor grounded into a game-ending double play.
For the Mets, the loss concluded a up-and-down season where they finished four games above .500. The Marlins ended their year at 79-83, splitting the four-game series with their National League East rivals after the teams traded shutouts on Saturday and Sunday.
The game time was 2 hours, 49 minutes.
