Chicago White Sox at Washington Nationals

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two teams concluding disappointing seasons meet Friday when the Washington Nationals host the Chicago White Sox for the opener of a three-game series at Nationals Park, though rain in the forecast threatens the contest.

The Nationals (65-94) are coming off a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. Designated hitter James Wood powered the victory, going 2 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs. First baseman Josh Bell also homered, while pitcher Andrew Alvarez delivered 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.

The White Sox (58-100), who have lost eight of their last 10 games, were routed 8-1 by the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Chicago’s offense has mustered just 10 total runs over its last six contests, all losses.

This series pairs clubs with the two worst records in the National League and American League, respectively. While the Nationals have shown recent signs of life, winning three of their last five, the White Sox are mired in a late-season slump.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Washington is projected to win Friday’s matchup 3-1.

The teams are scheduled to continue the series Saturday and Sunday to close out the regular season. First pitch Friday is set for 7:05 p.m. EDT, though the forecast calls for a temperature of 78 degrees and rain.
