Pittsburgh Pirates at Atlanta Braves

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (Interstat) — The Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves open their final series of the season on Friday at Truist Park, with both teams looking to end disappointing campaigns on a high note.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. EDT, though rain is in the forecast with a game-time temperature of 71 degrees.

The Braves (75-84) host after dropping two of three to Washington, including a 4-3 loss on Wednesday. Bryce Elder took the loss despite a quality start, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs. Eli White and Drake Baldwin homered in the defeat.

Atlanta had been playing better recently, having won series against Detroit and Washington prior to the Nationals’ visit.

The Pirates (69-90) arrive after a 2-1 loss in Cincinnati on Thursday. Pittsburgh’s bullpen kept it close after starter Braxton Ashcraft allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings, with Carmen Mlodzinski and Kyle Nicolas combining for 3 2/3 scoreless frames of relief.

When these teams met in Pittsburgh in May, the Pirates took two of three games, with each contest decided by one run.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Braves are projected to win the opener 7-4. The three-game set continues through Sunday.
