Sosa’s Three Homers, Schwarber’s Two Blasts Power Phillies’ Rout of Marlins
PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — Edmundo Sosa homered three times and drove in five runs as the Philadelphia Phillies pounded the Miami Marlins 11-1 on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park. Sosa’s third homer, a solo shot in the seventh inning, was upheld after a replay review and capped a five-run frame that included back-to-back homers from Kyle Schwarber and Alec Bohm, plus a two-run blast from Otto Kemp.
Schwarber also homered twice, finishing 4 for 5. Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo (15-7) earned the win, striking out 10 over seven scoreless innings while allowing just three hits. The Marlins’ lone run came in the second inning on an Eric Wagaman single. Ryan Weathers (2-2) took the loss for Miami. Attendance was 36,816.
