New York Mets at Chicago Cubs
CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs will look to solidify their playoff position when they host the New York Mets in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs (88-68) enter the final week of the regular season holding a National League wild-card spot but are looking to halt a four-game skid after being swept in Cincinnati, including a 1-0 loss on Sunday. Jameson Taillon was a bright spot in that defeat, allowing one run over seven strong innings.
The Mets (80-76), meanwhile, were officially eliminated from postseason contention Sunday after a 3-2 loss to Washington. Their bullpen has been effective lately, with Clay Holmes, Edwin Díaz and Gregory Soto combining for 5 2/3 scoreless innings in the series finale against the Nationals.
When the teams last met in May, the Mets took two of three games at Citi Field, outscoring the Cubs 18-10 over the series.
The statistical projection from Interstat favors the Cubs to snap their losing streak, simulating a 5-4 victory for the home team.
Following this series, the Mets travel to Miami for their final three games, while the Cubs host the St. Louis Cardinals to close the season. First pitch for Tuesday’s game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT.
