Miami Marlins at Texas Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — Jakob Marsee and Brian Navarreto hit RBI doubles in a three-run 12th inning that lifted the Miami Marlins to their fourth straight win, 6-4 over the Texas Rangers on Friday night.
The Marlins, who have won nine of their last 12 games, pounded out 14 hits but needed extra innings to secure the victory after the Rangers erased a two-run deficit in the 10th.
Miami starter Janson Junk was dominant, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five over seven innings. His one run allowed was the fewest he’s surrendered since July 12, when he gave up no runs in seven innings.
Texas took an early lead in the second inning when Josh Jung’s infield single off Junk scored Joc Pederson, who had hit a ground-rule double.
The game remained a 1-0 pitchers’ duel until the seventh, when Miami’s Javier Sanoja hit a pinch-hit solo home run, the Marlins’ second game in a row with a pinch-hit homer and ninth overall.
The Marlins appeared to take control in the top of the 10th. Otto Lopez doubled to score the automatic runner, and Xavier Edwards followed with an RBI single to give Miami a 3-1 lead.
But Texas answered in the bottom half. With two outs, pinch-hitter Rowdy Tellez launched a two-run homer to right-center field off Marlins reliever Cade Gibson, scoring the automatic runner and tying the game 3-3.
After a scoreless 11th, Miami broke through in the 12th against Texas reliever Patrick Corbin. Marsee doubled to score the automatic runner, and Navarreto followed with another double to bring Marsee home. Dane Myers added an RBI single to push the lead to 6-3.
Texas got one run back in the bottom of the 12th on a sacrifice fly by Jake Burger, but could not complete another comeback.
George Soriano earned the win for Miami with two scoreless innings of relief, improving to 2-0. Corbin took the loss for Texas, falling to 7-10.
The Marlins improved to 74-80. The Rangers fell to 79-75.
The game lasted 3 hours, 41 minutes and was played in front of an announced crowd of 26,374 at Globe Life Field.
The teams continue their three-game series on Saturday.
