Clearwater Threshers at Tampa Tarpons

TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Clearwater Threshers, holding the best record in the Florida State League, visit the Tampa Tarpons on Saturday at 7 p.m. at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Clearwater (50-34) leads the North Division standings, three games ahead of Tampa (47-37). The weather forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-80s.

The pitching matchup features a rematch of Thursday’s game, which Clearwater won 6-1. Right-hander Brad Pacheco (1-0, 0.00 ERA in two starts vs. Tampa this week) takes the mound for the Threshers. In that Thursday victory, Pacheco allowed two hits and struck out seven over six scoreless innings. He also pitched five scoreless innings July 2 against Fort Myers, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts.

Tampa counters with right-hander Wyatt Parliament (0-3, 6.46 ERA in his last three starts). Parliament started opposite Pacheco on Thursday, allowing four hits and one earned run in five innings but took the loss. He has struggled to find consistency, allowing at least four earned runs in three of his last four starts, including a 4.2-inning outing June 25 at Dunedin where he gave up five runs.

The teams have split their season series 5-4 entering Saturday, with Clearwater taking two of the last three games. The Tarpons won 7-0 on Tuesday before the Threshers responded with a 5-4 win Wednesday and the 6-1 victory Thursday.

Clearwater designated hitter Nathan Humphreys has provided key offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs on Thursday.

An Interstat analytics projection forecasts an 8-7 Clearwater win.

The game is the fourth of a six-game road trip for Clearwater, which plays at Tampa again Sunday before traveling to Dunedin. Tampa continues its homestand against Bradenton next week.
