ROUND ROCK, Texas (Interstat) — Two teams seeking their first win of the season will meet Tuesday when the Gwinnett Stripers visit the Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond.
Both clubs enter the series opener with 0-2 records. Gwinnett dropped a pair of one-run decisions to Memphis, including a 6-5 loss Sunday. Round Rock was outscored 11-3 in two losses at Sugar Land, falling 8-1 on Sunday.
The Stripers will send right-hander Lucas Braun to the mound. Braun will be making his season debut.
A player to watch for Gwinnett is reliever Elieser Hernández, who took the loss Sunday despite a solid outing. He allowed three earned runs over five innings, striking out four.
The Express will counter with their own bullpen weapon in Ryan Brasier. The right-hander threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings with one strikeout in Sunday’s defeat.
Gwinnett’s most productive pitchers in the recent loss were its relievers, as Hayden Harris and Anderson Pilar combined for two perfect innings of relief. Round Rock’s bullpen, aside from Brasier, saw Mason Thompson strike out two in a perfect inning Sunday, while Josh Sborz allowed one run in 1 2/3 innings.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Tuesday’s contest projects to be a low-scoring affair, with a predicted final of Round Rock 2, Gwinnett 1.
This game begins a five-game series between the teams, with contests scheduled daily through Sunday. Following this set, Gwinnett returns home to face Nashville for five games starting April 7, while Round Rock embarks on a five-game road trip to Oklahoma City beginning the same day.
