Bishop State vs Northwest Florida State

NICEVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — In a game defined by runs and relentless pressure, the Northwest Florida State Raiders used a dominant second-half performance to pull away from the Bishop State Wildcats for an 83-75 victory in a men’s junior college basketball game Sunday.

The Raiders, who entered as heavy favorites according to advanced metrics, improved to 23-7 overall, while Bishop State moved to an even 14-14.

The contest turned decisively in the second half after a tightly contested opening period. Northwest Florida State, trailing 48-50 at halftime, unleashed a 17-4 surge over a five-minute span early in the final frame to seize control. The run was fueled by the Raiders’ stifling defense, which forced a series of Wildcats turnovers and converted them into easy transition baskets.

Braylon Roman was the offensive catalyst for the Raiders, scoring a game-high 26 points. His slashing drives and timely shooting were central to the second-half outburst. However, the most pivotal performance came from Justin Burns, who anchored the Raiders with a formidable double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds. His work on the glass, which included five offensive rebounds, repeatedly extended possessions and limited Bishop State’s opportunities to close the gap.

The Wildcats, who led 33-27 after a high-scoring first quarter, were hampered by ball security issues throughout the game. They committed 18 turnovers, which the Raiders converted into 13 steals and numerous fast-break points. Northwest Florida State’s 13 assists also illustrated a more fluid offensive approach compared to Bishop State’s five.

Tahsheim Gary led Bishop State with 21 points, and Vophcy Prophete added 16, but the Wildcats struggled to find consistent offense against the Raiders’ defensive intensity after halftime. Patrick Olajuwon contributed 10 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats.

Statistically, the game was won on efficiency and extra chances. While both teams had 80 possessions, Northwest Florida State generated a higher offensive rating, shooting 44.4% from the field compared to Bishop State’s 49.1%. The Raiders compensated for a lower shooting percentage by attempting 19 more field goals, a direct result of their 11-5 advantage in offensive rebounds and the significant turnover margin.

The victory solidified a successful season for Northwest Florida State, while Bishop State saw its two-game win streak snapped.
