East Mississippi vs Jones

Preview: East Mississippi Lions at Jones Bobcats

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (Interstat) — The Jones College Bobcats, riding a four-game winning streak, will host the East Mississippi Lions in a men’s junior college basketball matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Jones (11-5) enters with momentum after a dominant 90-53 road victory over Mississippi Delta last Thursday. The Bobcats have not lost since Dec. 13, showcasing improved defense during their streak.

East Mississippi (9-8) snapped a five-game skid with a 75-70 home win over Meridian on Jan. 22. The Lions’ offense has been potent, scoring 100 points in a loss to Northwest Mississippi on Jan. 12, but defensive consistency has been an issue.

The game features a compelling individual matchup. Jones forward Bob Dickson has been a force, averaging 14 points, 9 rebounds and 2.3 blocks over his last three contests. He recorded a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds in the win at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Jan. 15.

For East Mississippi, guard Diovion Famakinde is a dynamic scoring threat. He is averaging 20.1 points per game over his last seven outings, including a 27-point performance against Meridian. His ability to score from all levels will be critical for the Lions’ chances.

This is the second meeting between the teams this month. They last played on Monday, Jan. 26, with details of that contest unavailable. The result will provide immediate insight into the teams’ trajectory for the rematch.

Jones will look to protect its home floor and solidify its standing, while East Mississippi aims to build on its recent win and even its season record.

After this game, Jones travels to face Holmes on Thursday, Jan. 29. East Mississippi’s next contest is at Hinds on Monday, Feb. 2.

Tip-off is set for Tuesday night at the Bobcat Gymnasium.
