LONG BEACH (Interstat) — Kamron Fontenot scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Long Beach Vikings to a 73-69 victory over the Orange Coast Pirates in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.

The Vikings improved to 2-7 overall, while the Pirates fell to 0-9.

Fontenot’s double-double anchored a Long Beach effort that saw Lawrence Brown add 20 points and seven assists. The Vikings led 33-35 after a high-scoring first quarter and maintained a narrow advantage throughout.

Orange Coast, which was projected as a slight favorite by analytics, kept pace behind Chris Obiajulu’s 13 points and nine rebounds and 14 points from Jay Fromm. A late three-pointer by Logan Barbee brought the Pirates within a point before Long Beach sealed the game at the free-throw line.
