Northeast Mississippi vs East Georgia State
SWAINSBORO, Ga. (Interstat) — Yoshi Nimmo scored 30 points and the Northeast Mississippi Tigers used a dominant second-half performance to defeat the East Georgia State Bobcats 73-57 in a men’s junior college basketball game on Saturday.
The game was a tale of two halves, with the teams locked in a high-scoring affair before the break. The Bobcats held a narrow 36-28 lead at halftime, but the Tigers seized control after the intermission, outscoring East Georgia State 45-21 over the final 20 minutes.
Nimmo was the catalyst for the Tigers, shooting 9 for 26 from the floor and 5 for 13 from three-point range. He also contributed six rebounds and two blocks. Issac Gilbert recorded a near double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Zane Tipler facilitated the offense with 14 points and a team-high six assists. Javion Stephen added seven points and seven assists.
The Tigers’ offense operated with high efficiency, scoring 73 points on 67 possessions for an offensive rating of 109.0. They shot 52.2 percent from the floor, connecting on 24 of 46 attempts, and were effective from the free-throw line, making 16 of 21.
Conversely, the Bobcats struggled offensively, managing only 57 points on 68 possessions for an offensive rating of 83.3. They shot 33.3 percent from the field, making just 18 of 54 shots, and were hampered by 17 turnovers.
Myles Squirewell led East Georgia State with 14 points and six rebounds. Khalid Racine added 10 points for the Bobcats, who capitalized on the offensive glass with 13 rebounds but could not convert those opportunities consistently.
The game began at a frantic pace, with the Bobcats taking an early lead behind three-pointers from Evan Daniel and Racine. Squirewell’s activity inside helped East Georgia State maintain its advantage, and a late layup from Malik Hinton gave the Bobcats their eight-point halftime lead.
The momentum shifted decisively in the second half. The Tigers opened the third quarter with a 16-4 run, fueled by Nimmo’s outside shooting and a stifling defensive effort that forced the Bobcats into difficult shots and turnovers. A three-pointer from Nimmo at the 11:57 mark of the second half gave the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish.
Northeast Mississippi continued to build on its lead, with Tipler and Jalen Chandler, who finished with eight points, providing key baskets to stretch the advantage to double digits. The Tigers’ defense held the Bobcats to just 21 points in the second half, sealing the road victory.
With the win, Northeast Mississippi evens its season record at 3-3. East Georgia State falls to 1-6. The result was an upset according to Interstat’s ELO system, which had projected the Bobcats with a 60.50 percent probability to win.
