Eastern Florida State vs McCook
McCOOK, Neb. (Interstat) — In a high-octane men’s junior college basketball showdown that defied pregame projections, the Eastern Florida State Titans outlasted the McCook Indians 111-101 on Thursday night in a game defined by relentless offense and a decisive rebounding advantage.
The victory on the road improved Eastern Florida State’s record to 2-0, while McCook fell to 2-1. The outcome was a surprise according to Interstat’s ELO system, which had given the Indians a 64.3 percent probability to win on their home court.
The game was an offensive showcase from the opening tip, with both teams trading baskets at a furious pace. The first quarter alone saw 100 combined points, with Eastern Florida State holding a narrow 49-51 lead after a period that featured 10 lead changes. The Titans managed to create separation in the second quarter, outscoring McCook 62-50 to secure the double-digit victory.
Eastern Florida State’s win was anchored by a dominant performance on the glass. The Titans hauled in 53 total rebounds, including 20 on the offensive end, compared to just 33 total rebounds for the Indians. This 20-rebound advantage created numerous second-chance opportunities and helped offset a less efficient shooting night from beyond the arc, where the Titans went 8 for 30.
Sean Register led all scorers for the Titans, pouring in 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in 38 minutes of action. He was instrumental in the team’s interior attack. Tyson Wilson nearly recorded a triple-double, finishing with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 11 assists. Nick Oliver provided a significant spark off the bench, scoring 18 points and collecting 7 rebounds in just 22 minutes.
For McCook, the offensive effort was led by a trio of high scorers. Nate Coley shouldered much of the load, scoring 26 points and dishing out 5 assists in 39 minutes. Djibril Diawara added 24 points, while Mo Diao contributed 19 points and 9 rebounds.
Despite the loss, McCook was more efficient from three-point range, connecting on 10 of 25 attempts compared to the Titans’ 8 for 30. The Indians also shared the ball more effectively, tallying 10 assists to Eastern Florida State’s 4, and recorded 10 steals. However, they were hampered by 36 free throw attempts, of which they made only 23.
The game was a stark contrast in styles. Eastern Florida State leveraged its superior size and rebounding to control the paint, while McCook relied on its perimeter shooting and ball movement. In the end, the Titans’ ability to consistently generate extra possessions through offensive rebounds proved to be the difference.
Eastern Florida State entered the game following a season-opening win over Indian River State. McCook had won its first two contests against Eastern Wyoming and Laramie County. The two teams are not scheduled to meet again in the regular season. Eastern Florida State will next host South Georgia State on Nov. 14, while McCook returns to action the same day at home against Fort Hays Tech.
