Los Angeles Valley vs Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — The Bakersfield College Renegades will host the Los Angeles Valley College Monarchs in a California Community College men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night, looking to complete a season sweep and celebrate Sophomore Night with a victory.
The Renegades (13-11) defeated the Monarchs (7-16) decisively in the first meeting, 96-80, on Jan. 24. Bakersfield’s Markell Brooks dominated that contest, posting 30 points and 16 rebounds. Brooks enters Wednesday’s game as a key player to watch, averaging 22.3 points and 10.3 rebounds over his last three outings, including a 24-point, 9-rebound performance in a loss to Citrus on Feb. 14.
Los Angeles Valley arrives with momentum from an 89-87 overtime road win at Canyons on Feb. 11, snapping a two-game skid. Guard Will Young led the Monarchs with 28 points in that victory and has been a consistent offensive force, scoring 20 or more points in three of his last five games. Young was held to just five points in the first matchup against Bakersfield, a performance the Monarchs will need him to surpass to challenge the Renegades.
Bakersfield has struggled recently, losing three of its last four games. The Renegades will aim to leverage their home-court advantage and the emotional boost of Sophomore Night to solidify their winning record. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Valley seeks to build on its recent road success and improve upon a 1-9 record in its last 10 games.
The game tips off at 7 p.m. PST at Bakersfield College’s Gil Bishop Sports Center. Following this contest, Bakersfield travels to face Canyons on Friday, while Los Angeles Valley visits Antelope Valley.
