Cerritos vs El Camino
TORRANCE, Calif. (Interstat) — The Cerritos Falcons delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance Wednesday night, overwhelming the El Camino Warriors 88-48 in a men’s junior college basketball game that was decided by a staggering first-quarter surge.
From the opening tip, Cerritos established a level of offensive efficiency and defensive pressure that El Camino could not match. The Falcons opened the game on a 14-0 run, highlighted by an Isaac Sowell jump shot, three-pointers from Blake Brewer and David Mack, and a dunk by Dorian Tate following a steal. The Warriors did not score until a Rocco Gaffoglio jumper with 15:41 left in the quarter, by which time the tone was irrevocably set.
The most important part of the game was unquestionably that initial period, where Cerritos built an insurmountable lead. The Falcons shot a blistering 12 of 21 from three-point range for the game, but their early accuracy from deep demoralized the Warriors. Meanwhile, El Camino’s offensive struggles were historic, missing all 22 of its three-point attempts in the contest. The first-quarter disparity was stark: Cerritos poured in 47 points while holding El Camino to just 20, effectively ending the competitive phase of the game before the second quarter began.
Cerritos maintained its intensity, adding 41 points in the second quarter to El Camino’s 28. The Falcons finished the night shooting 58.5 percent from the floor, while the Warriors managed only 24.2 percent. Cerritos also forced 12 turnovers, converting them into easy transition opportunities.
David Mack led a balanced Cerritos attack with 14 points. Dorian Tate added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Blake Brewer contributed 11 points. For El Camino, Rocco Gaffoglio scored 14 points and Kai Johnson added 12, but the Warriors could not overcome their catastrophic shooting night from beyond the arc.
The victory improved Cerritos’ season record to 23-4 and completed a regular-season sweep of El Camino, having also defeated the Warriors 64-59 on Jan. 30. El Camino fell to 14-13. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Cerritos entered the game with a 95.2 percent probability to win, a projection the Falcons exceeded with their lopsided victory.
Cerritos next plays at Long Beach on Friday. El Camino will host Los Angeles Harbor, also on Friday.
