Chaffey vs Cerro Coso
RIDGECREST, Calif. (Interstat) — The Chaffey Panthers used a dominant first half and a double-double from Collin Ingram to secure a 74-66 victory over the Cerro Coso Coyotes in a California Community College Athletic Association men’s basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.
The Panthers, who led wire-to-wire, built a significant early advantage by scoring 37 points in the opening quarter and took a 74-66 lead into halftime. The second half evolved into a defensive struggle, with both teams combining for only 29 points after the break. Chaffey’s defense held firm, limiting the Coyotes to just 35 points over the final two quarters to seal the road win.
The most critical phase of the game was the opening period, where Chaffey established a commanding lead that Cerro Coso could never overcome. The Panthers opened the game with a burst, hitting two 3-pointers in the first 90 seconds. While the Coyotes struggled with early turnovers and missed layups, Chaffey executed efficiently at the other end. The Panthers’ early offensive surge, which included a stretch of three 3-pointers from Semaj Morrison, created a double-digit cushion that provided a buffer for their second-half scoring drought.
Ingram was the top performer for Chaffey, recording 14 points and 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes of action. His efficient play inside helped the Panthers maintain their advantage. For Cerro Coso, Demarris Day led all scorers with 14 points and added eight assists, while Issiakoi Aminou contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
Statistically, Chaffey’s victory was anchored by superior shooting efficiency. The Panthers made 47.3% of their field goal attempts compared to Cerro Coso’s 40.3%. Chaffey also capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 14 of 18 attempts. Both teams committed nine turnovers in a sloppy contest that featured 39 total fouls.
With the win, Chaffey improved its season record to 10-12. Cerro Coso fell to 5-15. The Panthers swept the season series, having also defeated the Coyotes 72-60 on Dec. 20.
Chaffey next hosts Palo Verde on Wednesday. Cerro Coso travels to face Copper Mountain the same night.
