Chaffey vs Cerro Coso

Chaffey Seeks Season Sweep Against Cerro Coso in California JUCO Matchup

RIDGECREST, Calif. (Interstat) — The Chaffey Panthers will look to complete a regular-season sweep when they visit the Cerro Coso Coyotes in a California community college men’s basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.

Chaffey (9-12) defeated Cerro Coso (5-14) 72-60 in their first meeting on Dec. 20. The Panthers enter having lost three of their last four, including a 82-62 defeat to San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday. Guard Semaj Morrison led Chaffey in that loss with 16 points and four assists in 17 minutes. Morrison’s production has fluctuated; he scored 16 points against San Bernardino Valley but was limited to just one minute in a Jan. 10 loss at Barstow.

The Coyotes are also looking to rebound from a narrow road loss, falling 71-67 at Victor Valley on Wednesday. That game featured a standout performance from guard Demarris Day, who poured in 28 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished three assists. Day has been a consistent offensive force for Cerro Coso, scoring 21 points or more in three of his last five games, including a 28-point, 8-assist effort in an overtime loss to Barstow on Jan. 21.

Both teams have struggled to find consistency in conference play. Chaffey’s recent schedule has been arduous, with three of their last four losses coming by four points or fewer or in overtime. The Panthers will rely on contributors like Kajuan Thomas, who had seven points and eight rebounds in the last outing.

Cerro Coso’s season has been marked by near misses, with four of their 14 losses decided by six points or fewer. The Coyotes will need another high-scoring afternoon from Day and support from players like Issiakoi Aminou, who added 16 points in the loss to Victor Valley.

The game is part of the California Community College Athletic Association schedule. Following this contest, Chaffey will host Palo Verde on Feb. 4, while Cerro Coso travels to face Copper Mountain the same day.

Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday at Cerro Coso College.
