New Mexico vs New Mexico Military

ROSWELL, N.M. (Interstat) — The New Mexico Thunderbirds, riding a wave of strong late-season form, visit the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos on Monday night in a men’s junior college basketball matchup at Cahoon Armory Gym.

New Mexico (19-5) enters as the clear favorite, having won seven of its last eight games. The Thunderbirds are coming off a dominant 99-70 victory over Frank Phillips on Feb. 26, where guard Kemauri Millender scored 22 points in just 20 minutes. Millender has been a consistent offensive threat, averaging 13.4 points over his last seven contests.

In contrast, New Mexico Military (11-16) has struggled, losing four of its last five. The Broncos are reeling from a 92-47 road loss to Odessa on Feb. 26. Forward Anatoli Da Silva provided a bright spot in that defeat, scoring 14 points, but his playing time has been inconsistent in recent weeks.

The Thunderbirds won the previous meeting this season, 71-63 at home on Jan. 29. New Mexico’s balance has been key; in the win over Frank Phillips, Kenny Fields added eight points and seven rebounds while RJ Nance had 11 points and three assists.

The Broncos will look to leverage their home court to reverse their fortunes and avenge the earlier loss. Their most recent victory was an 83-55 road win at Frank Phillips on Feb. 23.

Monday’s game is the final regular-season contest for both teams before their upcoming conference tournaments. New Mexico will host Odessa on Thursday, while New Mexico Military will host Odessa next Saturday.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MST at Cahoon Armory Gym.
