Western Wyoming vs Central Wyoming
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (Interstat) — Two Wyoming junior college men’s basketball teams seeking momentum at the end of a difficult season will meet Saturday when the Western Wyoming Mustangs visit the Central Wyoming Rustlers.
The game at Central Wyoming College in Riverton is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tip-off on Sophomore Night. Both teams enter with nearly identical records in all competitions: Western Wyoming at 7-15 and Central Wyoming at 6-14.
The Rustlers will be looking for redemption after a narrow 71-68 road loss to the Mustangs just over two weeks ago on Feb. 11. In that contest, Central Wyoming let a late lead slip away.
A key player to watch for Central Wyoming is guard Isaac Patik. He has been a consistent contributor, including a 40-minute, all-around performance of 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in a loss to Northwest on Feb. 18, and a 19-point outing in a double-overtime loss to Gillette on Feb. 4.
Western Wyoming counters with forward Filip Rypdal Overas, who had 7 points and 3 rebounds in 17 minutes in a Feb. 14 game at Casper. However, the Mustangs are mired in a five-game losing streak since their win over Central Wyoming, most recently falling 75-62 to Northwest on Wednesday.
Central Wyoming has also struggled lately, dropping its last two games. In their previous meeting, balance was key for Western Wyoming, as no Mustang scored more than 12 points but four reached double figures.
Saturday’s matchup presents a final regular-season opportunity for both squads to build confidence before postseason play, with Central Wyoming aiming to defend its home court on an emotional night for its sophomores and Western Wyoming trying to snap its skid and secure a season sweep.
