Santa Fe vs Florida Southwestern State

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Florida Southwestern State Buccaneers used a dominant second-half performance fueled by a torrent of three-pointers to pull away from the Santa Fe Saints for an 85-70 victory in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers, who entered the game with a 19-5 record, showcased their offensive firepower, particularly from beyond the arc. They connected on 18 of 38 three-point attempts, a 47.4% clip that proved to be the decisive factor. Santa Fe, in contrast, managed just 9 of 34 from deep.

The game’s most important stretch came early in the second half. After a competitive first half that saw Florida Southwestern State take a narrow 37-34 lead into the break, the Buccaneers erupted. They opened the second half on a 13-4 run, extending their lead to double digits and setting a tone of offensive efficiency that Santa Fe could not match. The Buccaneers scored 48 points in the second half, consistently answering any attempt by the Saints to mount a comeback with timely shots.

Kenyon Giles led all scorers and was the catalyst for Florida Southwestern State, finishing with 26 points. He was instrumental in the three-point barrage, hitting several key shots to stifle Santa Fe’s momentum. He was supported by Mason Blazer, who added 22 points, and Tyler Bey, who contributed a strong all-around performance with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Santa Fe, which fell to 9-9, was led by Palmer Walton and Moses Horne, who each scored 16 points. Harvey Wilson grabbed 10 rebounds for the Saints. Despite winning the turnover battle, committing only seven to Florida Southwestern State’s nine, the Saints were hampered by poor shooting overall. They shot just 35.9% from the field and struggled to generate consistent offense outside of Walton and Horne.

The Buccaneers also controlled the glass, outrebounding Santa Fe 45-38. Stephen Okoro was a force inside for Florida Southwestern State, pulling down 14 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, to help create extra possessions.

The victory completed a regular-season sweep for Florida Southwestern State, which also defeated Santa Fe 79-64 on Jan. 24. The Buccaneers, who were projected as heavy favorites by advanced metrics, lived up to that billing with their efficient offensive performance, posting an offensive rating of 122.0 points per 100 possessions compared to Santa Fe’s 105.2.

Santa Fe will look to rebound on the road at Indian River State on Saturday. Florida Southwestern State’s next contest is at Indian River State on Monday.
