Santa Fe vs Florida Southwestern State

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Florida Southwestern State squad will host a Santa Fe team looking to halt a skid when the junior college men’s basketball teams meet Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers (18-5), coming off an 88-77 home win over Daytona State on Saturday, will celebrate Sophomore Night at home. They have won four of their last five games, with their only loss in that stretch coming on the road to a strong Eastern Florida State team. The Saints (9-8), meanwhile, have lost three consecutive games, including a 68-73 defeat at Miami Dade last Saturday.

Florida Southwestern State won the previous meeting this season, 79-64 at Santa Fe on Jan. 24. The Buccaneers’ offense has been potent, scoring 95 and 101 points in recent home victories.

A key matchup will feature two of the region’s top scorers. The Buccaneers are led by sophomore guard Kenyon Giles, who is averaging 24.3 points over his last four full games. He erupted for 27 points in 29 minutes in the win over Daytona State. For the Saints, sophomore forward Harvey Wilson has been a consistent performer, averaging 12 points and 7.3 rebounds over his last three contests. He nearly posted a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds in the loss to Miami Dade.

The Saints will need to find an answer for Giles and improve their road performance to snap their losing streak. Santa Fe is 2-5 in true road games this season. Florida Southwestern State has been dominant at home, boasting a 10-1 record in Fort Myers.

The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at the Buccaneers’ home court. Santa Fe travels to face Indian River State on Saturday. Florida Southwestern State’s next game is at Indian River State on Monday, March 2.
