Vincennes vs Kaskaskia
Preview: Vincennes Looks to Continue Dominance at Kaskaskia
VINCENNES, Ind. (Interstat) — The top-ranked Vincennes Trailblazers, riding a wave of dominance with a 21-1 record, travel to face the Kaskaskia Blue Devils in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.
The matchup at Kaskaskia’s home court presents a stark contrast in trajectories. Vincennes has won nine straight games since its only loss on Jan. 31, including a commanding 90-66 victory over Lake Land on Wednesday. Kaskaskia (5-9) seeks consistency, coming off a 74-79 loss to Lincoln Trail on Feb. 18.
Vincennes, which defeated Kaskaskia 70-55 just over a month ago on Jan. 17, is led by standout Drae Vasser. The guard is coming off a monumental performance, scoring 30 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in 1 minute of play in the win over Lake Land. He is complemented by backcourt partner Jalen Calloway, who also had 30 points and six assists in that game.
Kaskaskia will look to forward Abdou Faye to provide a spark. Faye contributed in a narrow 82-81 win at Lake Land on Feb. 14 and recorded five rebounds, an assist and a block against Shawnee on Feb. 11.
The Trailblazers’ offense has been prolific during their win streak, averaging 78.2 points per game. Their defense has been equally formidable, holding opponents to an average of 62.2 points over the same stretch. Kaskaskia’s path to an upset likely requires slowing that tempo and finding scoring beyond Faye, as the Blue Devils have averaged 72.6 points in their last five contests.
For Kaskaskia, the game is a chance to build momentum before a tough stretch that includes a home-and-away series with John A. Logan next week. For Vincennes, it’s another opportunity to solidify its top ranking as the regular season winds down, with key games against Olney Central and Wabash Valley looming.
Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
