Eagles Edge Saluqs in Tight Junior College Men’s Basketball Contest
DYERSBURG, Tenn. (Interstat) — Elijah Causly scored 20 points to lead Dyersburg State to a 73-72 men’s junior college basketball victory over Southwest Tennessee on Wednesday night.
The Eagles, who improved to 2-17, avenged a loss to the Saluqs from Jan. 7. Southwest Tennessee fell to 2-13.
Dyersburg State used a strong perimeter attack, making 15 three-pointers, to overcome a significant rebounding deficit. The Saluqs grabbed 48 rebounds to the Eagles’ 36 but shot just 2 for 13 from beyond the arc. Bryce Scurlark added 22 points for Dyersburg State. Kody Hickerson led Southwest Tennessee with 12 points.
The Eagles scored 50 points in the second half to secure the narrow road win. Both teams committed more turnovers than assists in a sloppy game featuring 40 total fouls.
