Western Texas vs Odessa

ODESSA, Texas (Interstat) — A crucial men’s junior college basketball rematch is set for Monday night when the Odessa College Wranglers host the Western Texas College Westerners at the OC Sports Center.

The Wranglers (15-7) will look to avenge a 69-64 road loss to the Westerners (10-11) on Jan. 15 and solidify their standing in the region. Odessa enters having dropped three of its last four, including a narrow 75-73 home loss to Midland on Feb. 12. Western Texas seeks consistency after a lopsided 84-62 defeat to New Mexico on Feb. 9 snapped a two-game win streak.

The matchup features two of the region’s top scorers. Western Texas will lean on guard Anesu Dehwe, who is averaging 20.3 points over his last six games. He scored 21 in the loss to New Mexico and poured in 29 in a Jan. 27 game at South Plains. For Odessa, guard Ahmere Carson has been a dynamic force, averaging 22.2 points over his last six contests. He scored 25 in the recent loss to Midland and had a 29-point performance in a win over Howard (Tex.) on Jan. 22.

Odessa holds the superior overall record, but its recent skid and the earlier head-to-head result give Western Texas reason for confidence. The Westerners’ victory last month was part of a challenging stretch where they faced four consecutive road games.

The game is pivotal for both teams’ momentum heading into the final weeks of the regular season. For Odessa, it’s a chance to halt a slide and defend home court. For Western Texas, it’s an opportunity to sweep the season series and climb back to .500 in region play.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST at the OC Sports Center.
